Preheat the oven broiler to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C), and position a rack 6 inches below the heat source. Line a baking sheet with foil. Arrange the bread slices on the prepared sheet.

Grate the peeled garlic cloves on a microplane to form a paste. Transfer the garlic paste to a bowl; sprinkle with salt. Add the softened butter and mix thoroughly. Spread 1 to 2 teaspoons of the garlic butter on each bread slice.
