  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round springform pan.

  2. 2

Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat 1/2 cup plus 6 tablespoons softened butter, almond paste, and 1 cup sugar on low speed until combined. Increase to medium-high and beat until smooth, light, and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Beat in the vanilla bean paste; add the eggs one at a time, beating until fully incorporated after each addition. With a rubber spatula, gently fold in the flour and salt just until combined.

  3. 3

Spoon the mixture into the prepared springform pan. Arrange the apple slices over the batter; brush the apples with the melted butter and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.

  4. 4

Bake in the preheated oven until browned and a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean, 50 to 55 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool for 10 minutes. Remove the sides of the pan and cool completely, about 1 hour. Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar and sprinkle with toasted sliced almonds.
