Applesauce Muffins

Breakfast 🍳Dessert 🍰Snack 🍿 American

These Applesauce Muffins are soft and moist with warm notes of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, topped with a crunchy brown sugar–walnut streusel. The applesauce keeps them tender while the spiced crumb adds a toasty, nutty finish. Ideal for breakfast, a cozy snack, or tucking into lunchboxes.

Applesauce Muffins
  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a 6-cup jumbo muffin pan or grease it with butter.

  2. 2

For the crumb topping, place the butter, flour, brown sugar, and walnuts in a small bowl. Use a fork to mix until the mixture forms small crumbles. Set aside.

  3. 3

For the muffins, whisk the milk, eggs, and butter together in a bowl. Add the brown sugar, applesauce, and vanilla. Whisk until smooth. Set aside.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and gently fold just until combined. Fill each muffin cup about 2/3 full with batter and sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the top.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Remove the muffins from the pan and cool on a rack.
