Canadian Tea Biscuits
Canadian Tea Biscuits bake up tender and flaky, dotted with sharp Cheddar and fresh chives for a buttery, savory bite. They’re fragrant, lightly salty, and ideal warm from the oven alongside tea or coffee, with a pat of butter or a swipe of jam. A cozy snack for afternoon breaks or a simple addition to brunch.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- 2
Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Cut in the shortening with 2 knives or a pastry blender until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in the Cheddar and chives; gradually stir in the milk until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead with floured hands until smooth, about 15 times.
- 4
Using a floured rolling pin, roll the dough out to 1 inch thick. Cut out biscuits with a 2 1/2-inch round cookie cutter and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.
- 5
Press the dough trimmings together, roll them out again, and cut the remaining dough into biscuits.

Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
