    Place the water, butter, egg, 3 cups flour, sugar, salt, and yeast into the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer; choose the Dough/Manual cycle.

    Open the lid and scrape down the sides of the bread pan as needed during the initial mixing cycle.

    As the dough mixes, add more flour only until a soft dough forms.

    When the Dough/Manual cycle ends, transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.

    Coat a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

    Pat the dough into a rectangle; cut it into 15 equal pieces using a pizza cutter or a serrated knife.

    Shape each piece into a ball and place them evenly spaced in the prepared pan.

    Cover the pan; let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, 35 to 45 minutes.

    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

    Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
