    Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat.

    Lay a 12x12-inch sheet of aluminum foil on a work surface. Spoon brown sugar and butter into the center of the foil. Set a pineapple ring on top of the sugar-butter mixture and place the cherry in the center. Position the inverted shortcake shell on top of the pineapple ring. Fold the foil around the cake to make a packet.

    Grill the packet sugar-side down on the preheated grill until the sugar is caramelized and the cake is hot, about 12 minutes.
