    Assemble all the ingredients.

    In a saucepan, stir the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Add the lemon, cloves, and the cinnamon stick; bring the simple syrup to a boil and cook until the flavors come together, about 10 minutes.

    Strain the simple syrup; discard the lemon, cloves, and cinnamon stick. Return the simple syrup to the saucepan.

    Stir the wine into the simple syrup; heat until hot but not boiling, 5 to 10 minutes.
