    Melt the butter in a large, heavy pot over medium-high heat; add the linguica, the onion, the bell peppers, the black pepper, the basil, and the oregano. Cook, stirring, until the vegetables are very tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

    Stir the beans into the linguica and vegetable mixture; cook until the beans are softened, about 5 minutes.
