Loaded Jicama Fries

Appetizer 🧄Side Dish 🥗Snack 🍿 American Low-CarbKeto 🥩Gluten-Free

Loaded Jicama Fries bring a satisfying bite with tender centers and a crisp, golden exterior, finished under the broiler so Cheddar melts into every crevice. Smoky bacon adds salty crunch while the jicama keeps things lighter than classic fries. Serve hot as a game-day snack or a hearty side when you’re craving something bold and cheesy.

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cut the jicama sticks into quarters and add them to the boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes.

  3. 3

Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on paper towels and crumble when cool enough to handle. Reserve the bacon grease. Remove the jicama from the water and pat dry.

  4. 4

Toss the jicama in a bowl with the bacon grease and 1 tablespoon avocado oil to coat. Spread in a single layer on the prepared pan.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and turn on the broiler.

  6. 6

Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon avocado oil in a skillet. Add the jicama and fry until your preferred crispness, about 5 minutes.

  7. 7

Spread the jicama back onto the baking pan. Season with salt, then top with Cheddar cheese and the crumbled bacon. Broil until the cheese is melted, about 3 minutes.
