Date-Sweetened Fudgy Brownies

Dessert 🍰 American

Date-Sweetened Fudgy Brownies are rich and chocolate-forward, with natural caramel notes from puréed dates that keep each bite ultra-moist. Whole wheat flour and cocoa add depth while bittersweet chips melt into gooey pockets. Perfect for an after-dinner treat or a potluck dessert when you want decadent flavor with less refined sugar.

Date-Sweetened Fudgy Brownies
  1. 1

Soak the dates in hot water in a small bowl for 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving enough overhang on the sides.

  3. 3

Drain the dates and transfer them to a food processor. Pulse until completely smooth, 1 to 2 minutes. If the mixture is too thick, pulse in hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until fully puréed.

  4. 4

Add the softened butter to the food processor and pulse to combine, about 30 seconds. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then process until light and fluffy, about 1 minute. Add the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt; pulse just until combined, about 30 seconds. Gently stir in the chocolate chips by hand. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven until the edges just begin to set, 20 to 25 minutes. Cool in the dish for 10 minutes, then lift out using the parchment overhang. Cool completely on a cooling rack. Cut into 16 pieces.
