    Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook, stirring now and then, until the pieces are evenly browned. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until translucent. Drain the mixture and set it aside.

    In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the chicken broth and green chile peppers and bring to a boil. Stir in 3 cans great Northern beans, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, cilantro, and red pepper flakes, then stir in the chicken-onion mixture until blended. Reduce the heat.

    Let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes, adding the remaining 2 cans great Northern beans for a thicker texture.
