Classic Filipino Pandesal Rolls

Breakfast 🍳Side Dish 🥗Snack 🍿 Filipino 🇵🇭

Classic Filipino Pandesal Rolls are soft, lightly sweet buns with a tender, fluffy crumb and a signature breadcrumb-dusted crust. They’re especially good warm, perfect with butter, jam, or a slice of cheese for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Serve them fresh from the oven when you want comforting, homey bread that pairs well with coffee or hot chocolate.

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the milk, 2 teaspoons sugar, and yeast; stir until the sugar and yeast are completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix the remaining sugar, flour, and salt. Pour in the milk mixture and the vegetable oil, then mix until the dough comes together.

  3. 3

Turn the dough out onto a flat work surface. Knead until smooth. Shape it into a ball, return it to the bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise until doubled, at least 1 hour.

  4. 4

Using a bench knife, divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a log and slice diagonally into 1-inch pieces.

  5. 5

Spread the bread crumbs on a large plate. Roll each piece of dough in the bread crumbs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let rise until puffy, 30 to 45 minutes.

  6. 6

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  7. 7

Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
