Caramelized Peach Upside-Down Cake

Dessert 🍰 American

Caramelized Peach Upside-Down Cake features buttery brown-sugar syrup that bakes into a glossy topping, soaking the tender crumb with rich caramel notes. Fresh peach halves create juicy bursts in every slice, balancing sweetness with a hint of warm nutmeg. Serve warm for dessert or at a summer gathering with a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream.

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. 2

Melt 1/4 cup butter in an 8-inch square pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and nutmeg. Arrange the peach halves, cut side down, in the prepared pan.

  3. 3

Cream 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup white sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg. Stir the flour, baking powder, and salt together; add to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beating well after each addition. Spread the cake batter over the peaches.

  4. 4

Bake in the preheated oven until the top is lightly browned, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove the cake from the oven and let it stand in the pan for 5 minutes; invert onto a serving platter.
