    On a large square sheet of foil, arrange the beef, potato cubes, carrots, onion, and garlic in layers. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then add the butter and a tablespoon of water on top.

    Roll the edges of the tin foil together and seal them tightly.

    Bury the packet in campfire coals or place it in a preheated oven at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). For either method, cook for about 1 hour. Eat it straight from the foil, or transfer it to a dish.
