Ingredients
- 4 Whole eggs
- 2.5 Cups all-purpose flour
- 16 Ounces (oz) honey
- 0.5 Vanilla bean, divided
- 4 Tablespoons (tbsp) semisweet chocolate, grated
- 0.5 Cups blanched slivered almonds
- 1 1.75 Ounces (oz) package multicolored sprinkles
- 1 Cup vegetable oil
- 0.33 Cups confectioners' sugar
Steps
- Place the eggs in a bowl and beat until they have tripled in volume. Gradually add the flour until well blended, ensuring the dough remains slightly sticky.
- Transfer the dough to a floured board. Cut off a piece at a time and roll between your hands to form pencil shapes, using a little flour if needed.
- Cut the rolled dough into 1/4 inch pieces and place each on a floured cloth.
- In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Deep-fry the dough pieces about 1/2 cup at a time, turning constantly until golden. Drain and set aside. Change the oil if the dough begins to brown quickly after several batches.
- In a large pan, bring the honey to a boil with the vanilla bean. Discard the bean.
- Place the deep-fried pieces into the hot honey and toss until all are coated.
- Cool slightly and stir in the chocolate, nuts, and multicolored sprinkles.
- Place the coated pieces on a plate, shaping them firmly into a tall cone.
- Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar before serving.
Enjoy your festive Strufoli I!
