Ingredients

  • 1 - 12 Pounds (lb) whole turkey
  • 0.5 - Cups butter
  • 1 - Cup water

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Remove and discard the giblets from the turkey. Rinse the turkey and pat it dry.
  3. Place the turkey upside-down (with the breast facing down) in a roasting pan.
  4. Place half of the butter inside the cavity of the turkey. Cut the remaining butter into pieces and rub it over the outside of the skin.
  5. Pour the water into the pan and cover the turkey with foil.
  6. Roast in the preheated oven until the internal temperature of the thighs reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C), approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
  7. Once done, use the pan juices to prepare a gravy by adding cornstarch, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the liquid thickens.
