Ingredients

  • 12 Pounds (lb) whole turkey
  • 1.5 Cups water
  • 5 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter, divided
  • 1 6 Ounces (oz) package dry bread stuffing mix, packaged
  • 1 Cup celery, minced
  • 0.25 Cup onion, minced
  • 4 Slices toasted white bread, torn
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) vegetable oil

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Remove and discard the giblets from the turkey. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and place it in a shallow roasting pan.
  3. In a medium saucepan, bring water and 4 tablespoons of butter to a boil. Stir in the stuffing mix, cover, remove from heat, and let rest for 5 minutes.
  4. While the stuffing is resting, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add celery and onion; cook and stir until tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked celery and onion to the stuffing. Mix in the toasted bread pieces and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Loosely scoop the stuffing into the body and neck cavities of the turkey. Rub the exterior of the turkey with vegetable oil and loosely cover with aluminum foil.
  7. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part of the thigh reaches 180 degrees F (85 degrees C) and the interior of the stuffing reaches 165 degrees F (70 degrees C), about 3.5 to 4 hours. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of cooking to brown the bird.

Enjoy your perfectly roasted turkey with stuffing, a delightful addition to any holiday meal!
