Serving Size: 6
Cooking Time: 90 minutes
Ingredients
- 1.5 Cups (c) milk
- 2 Ounces (oz) unsweetened chocolate
- 0.75 Cups (c) white sugar
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) cinnamon, ground
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) nutmeg, ground
- 3 Cups (c) day-old bread cubes
- 0.5 Cups (c) walnuts, chopped
- 3 Large eggs, whisked
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) vanilla extract
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a double boiler, heat the milk and unsweetened chocolate together until the chocolate is fully melted.
- In a 10x16 inch oven baking bag, combine 0.25 cup of the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the bread cubes and chopped walnuts, mixing well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, remaining sugar, and vanilla extract. Blend this mixture with the melted chocolate mixture.
- Place the baking bag in a 1-quart loaf pan and pour the chocolate mixture over the bread. Secure the bag with a twist tie and make six half-inch slits on top. Pour water into the pan so that it comes up the sides of the bag, ensuring it does not overflow.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the pudding comes out clean. To serve, remove the pudding from the pan, cut the bag away from the top, and place it on a serving plate. Enjoy your spiced chocolate custard bread pudding warm!
