Ingredients

  • 1.5 Cups white sugar
  • 1 Whole egg
  • 2.5 Cups sour cream
  • 4 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.25 Teaspoon salt

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the white sugar, beaten egg, and sour cream. Mix until well blended.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to the mixture. Stir until the dough is thoroughly combined.
  4. Divide the dough in half. Form each half into a long roll. If your kitchen is warm, keep the half of the dough you're not working with in the refrigerator.
  5. Cut off a narrow slice of dough. Roll it lightly with your hands on a lightly floured board into a pencil-like strip about 7 inches long. Form the strip into a figure "8" and pinch the ends together. Place on the prepared cookie sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden. Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy your traditional Norwegian Kringla!
