Ingredients
- 1 Cup sugar, melted
- 6 Large eggs, whisked
- 1 14 Ounces (oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 12 Fluid Ounces (fl oz) can evaporated milk
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) vanilla extract
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns into a golden caramel. Carefully pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the cooled caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it, then invert it onto a serving plate. The caramel will flow over the top, creating a beautiful glaze.
- Slice and enjoy your classic Mexican Flan!
