Serving Size: 8
Cooking Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients
- 4 Whole Granny Smith apples, peeled
- 1.5 Cups seedless raisins
- 0.5 Cups apple cider
- 0.33 Cups orange juice
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) orange zest, zested
- 0.75 Cups white sugar
- 2 Whole soda crackers, ground
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ground cinnamon
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ground cloves
- 2 9-Inch pie crusts, packaged
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the peeled apples, raisins, apple cider, orange juice, and orange zest. Simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft, about 20 minutes.
- Stir in the white sugar, ground soda crackers, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves until the mixture is well combined.
- Pour the apple mixture into one of the pie crusts. Place the second crust on top, pinching and crimping the edges to seal. Pierce the top crust in several places with a fork to allow steam to escape.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking until the top is golden brown, about 30 minutes more.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving to let the flavors meld and the filling set.
