  • 15.25 Ounces (oz) package yellow cake mix, divided
  • 1 Large egg, whisked
  • 0.5 Cups unsalted butter, melted
  • 15 Ounces (oz) can pumpkin puree
  • 0.5 Cups white sugar
  • 0.25 Cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 Large eggs, whisked
  • 1.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 Cups white sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons (tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 Cups chopped walnuts, divided

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the crust: Measure 1 cup of the cake mix into a medium bowl; set aside for the topping. Combine the remaining cake mix, melted butter, and whisked egg in a large bowl; mix until well combined. Pat the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Make the pumpkin layer: Mix the pumpkin puree, white sugar, brown sugar, whisked eggs, and cinnamon in a large bowl until well combined. Pour over the crust.
  4. Make the topping: Add sugar and softened butter to the reserved cake mix and stir until crumbly. Sprinkle the topping over the pumpkin layer, then scatter walnuts over the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40 to 45 minutes.
