Serving Size: 48
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Ingredients
- 3 Large eggs
- 3 Tablespoons (tbsp) white sugar
- 0.5 Cups sour cream
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) rum
- 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) salt
- 3.33 Cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 4 Cups vegetable oil
- 0.5 Cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sugar until light and frothy.
- Blend in the sour cream, vanilla extract, and rum until well combined.
- Gradually fold in the sifted flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into manageable portions. Roll out each portion as thin as possible, aiming for a paper-thin consistency.
- Cut the rolled dough into 2-inch wide strips, then cut diagonally every 4 inches. Make a 1-inch slit in the center of each strip. Pull one of the pointy corners through the slit to form a bowtie shape.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Carefully slide about seven or eight pastries into the hot oil. Fry until they rise to the surface and turn a light golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the pastries from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- While still warm, dust the pastries generously with sifted confectioners' sugar.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container once cooled. Enjoy your crispy, rum-infused bowtie pastries!
