Serving Size: 10

Cooking Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 5 Pounds (lb) Macintosh apples, quartered
  • 0.75 Cups (cup) white sugar
  • 0.75 Cups (cup) water
  • 0.25 Cups (cup) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) cinnamon, ground
  • 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) nutmeg, ground

Steps

  1. Place the quartered Macintosh apples in a large pot, keeping their skins on. Add the white sugar, water, and fresh lemon juice.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally until the apples become very soft and lose their shape, approximately 25 minutes.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and allow the apples to cool slightly.
  4. Puree the apples using a food processor or food mill. If using a food processor, strain the puree through a sieve to remove any pieces of apple skin.
  5. Stir in the ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg until well combined.
  6. Serve the applesauce at room temperature or refrigerate it to serve cold. Enjoy your homemade blushing applesauce!
