Serving Size: 6
Cooking Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients
- 3 Pounds (lb) beef, ground
- 3 Tablespoons (tbsp) barbecue sauce
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) garlic powder
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) black pepper, ground
- 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) salt
- 0.5 Pounds (lb) bacon, diced
- 1 Medium onion, minced
- 0.75 Cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 6 Whole hamburger buns, divided
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly using your hands. Shape the mixture into 12 thin patties, approximately 1/4 pound each. Arrange the patties on a cookie sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon pieces until evenly browned, about 5 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the onions in the remaining bacon drippings until soft and beginning to brown. Combine the onions and bacon in a small bowl.
- Preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Remove the beef patties from the refrigerator. Top 6 of the patties with 1.5 tablespoons of the bacon and onion mixture, then sprinkle with shredded cheese. Place the remaining patties on top and press the edges together to seal.
- Grill the stuffed patties until the beef is no longer pink in the center, about 4 to 5 minutes per side. Ensure an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) using an instant-read thermometer. Serve the burgers on hamburger buns with your choice of condiments.
