  • 1 Pound (lb) ground beef
  • 1 Pound (lb) bulk Italian sausage
  • 4 15 Ounces (oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 16 Ounces (oz) can mushrooms, drained
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) garlic salt
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) dried oregano
  • 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) dried thyme
  • 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) dried basil
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 15 Ounces (oz) container ricotta cheese
  • 3 Large eggs, whisked
  • 0.33 Cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 Pound (lb) mozzarella cheese, shredded

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, mushrooms, garlic salt, oregano, thyme, and basil. Season with salt and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and olive oil, cooking until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  5. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, whisked eggs, and Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  6. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1/3 of the meat sauce over the mozzarella. Repeat the layering process two more times, finishing with the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
