Cuisine
American (Texan)
Ingredients
- 2 Pounds (lb) lean ground beef
- 1 Large onion, minced
- 1 Large bell pepper, minced
- 3 15 Ounces (oz) cans pinto beans, drained
- 2 28 Ounces (oz) cans diced tomatoes
- 4 8 Ounces (oz) cans tomato sauce
- 0.5 Cups chili powder
- 3 Whole jalapeño peppers, minced (Optional)
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) ground black pepper
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) salt
- 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) garlic powder
Steps
- In a large pot, cook and stir the ground beef, minced onion, and minced bell pepper over medium heat until the beef is browned, and the onion and pepper are tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and discard any excess grease.
- Stir in the drained pinto beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, minced jalapeños (if using), crushed red pepper flakes, ground black pepper, salt, and garlic powder.
- Bring the mixture to a slow boil, then cover the pot and reduce the heat to a simmer. Allow the chili to simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours. The longer it simmers, the more flavorful it will become.
- Serve hot, optionally topped with cheese, sour cream, or green onions. Enjoy!
