Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) dill seed
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) mustard seed
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) cumin seed
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) chili powder
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) paprika
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) red pepper flakes
  • 2 Sprigs rosemary
  • 10 Sprigs thyme
  • 3 Sprigs dill
  • 2 Sprigs sage
  • 0.5 Bunch parsley
  • 30 Whole live, hard-shell blue crabs

Steps

  1. Crush the dill seed, mustard seed, and cumin seed using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
  2. In a 5-gallon stockpot, combine the crushed spices with chili powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, rosemary, thyme, dill, sage, and parsley.
  3. Fill the pot 3/4 full with water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
  4. Add the live blue crabs to the pot, cover, and boil for about 20 minutes, or until all the shells turn red and the meat is no longer translucent. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  5. Serve hot, and enjoy your Spicy Herb-Infused Blue Crab Boil with your choice of vegetables or sides.
