Ingredients

  • 3 Pounds (lb) potatoes, sliced
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch pepper, to taste
  • 9 Tablespoons (tbsp) all-purpose flour
  • 6 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter, diced
  • 1 Quart (qt) whole milk

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer 1/3 of the potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of flour over the potatoes, then dot with 1/3 of the butter.
  4. Repeat the layering process twice more, ensuring each layer is seasoned and dotted with butter.
  5. Pour in enough milk to fill the dish 3/4 full.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven, checking every 15 minutes, until the milk comes to a boil, about 45 to 60 minutes.
  7. Reduce the heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue to bake until the potatoes are tender, about 45 to 60 more minutes.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, buttery goodness of these scalloped potatoes.
