Ingredients

  • 1.5 Cups (cups) all-purpose flour
  • 2 Teaspoons (tsp) cardamom, ground
  • 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ginger, ground
  • 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) cinnamon, ground
  • 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) nutmeg, ground
  • 1 Cup (cup) white sugar
  • 0.125 Teaspoons (tsp) salt
  • 2 Teaspoons (tsp) orange zest, zested
  • 0.33 Cup (cup) butter, softened
  • 0.67 Cup (cup) half-and-half
  • 2 Whole eggs

Steps

  1. Grease the krumkake iron with oil or vegetable spray and heat over medium-low heat. If using an electric iron, follow the manufacturer's preheating instructions.
  2. Sift the flour, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a large bowl. Stir in the sugar, salt, and orange zest until evenly blended.
  3. In a microwavable bowl, combine the butter and half-and-half. Cover and microwave until warm, about 25 seconds. Allow to cool slightly.
  4. Whisk the eggs, one at a time, into the half-and-half mixture. Stir this mixture into the flour mixture until well blended.
  5. Using the preheated krumkake iron, place 1 tablespoon of batter onto each mold. Close the iron and cook until the cookies are golden brown, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  6. Carefully remove the krumkake from the iron and, while still hot, wrap around a wooden krumkake cone to form the traditional shape. Hold in place until set, about 10 seconds, then remove and cool completely on waxed paper.
  7. Repeat with the remaining batter. Enjoy your zesty orange cardamom krumkake!
