Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) sesame oil, divided
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) garlic, minced
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) kosher salt
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) onion powder
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) Cajun seasoning
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) green hot pepper sauce
- 2 Teaspoons (tsp) soy sauce
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) teriyaki sauce
- 2 Teaspoons (tsp) brown sugar
- 12 Ounces (oz) flat iron steak
- 0.5 Red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 Green onions, sliced
Steps
- In a bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, minced garlic, salt, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, hot pepper sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and brown sugar. Pour the marinade into a resealable plastic bag, add the flat iron steak, and coat well. Squeeze out excess air and seal the bag. Marinate in the refrigerator for 12 hours.
- Remove the steak from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Discard the remaining marinade. Heat the remaining 3 tablespoons of sesame oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until it begins to smoke.
- Sear the steak in the hot oil for about 3 minutes per side for medium doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly.
- While the steak is resting, add the sliced red bell pepper to the hot skillet and cook until it begins to soften, about 1 minute. Stir in the sliced green onions and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Serve the sautéed pepper mixture over the sliced steak. Enjoy your savory sesame flat iron steak with a side of salad greens or wrapped in warm flour tortillas for a complete meal.
