Ingredients

  • 1 6 Ounces (oz) package strawberry flavored Jell-O®, packaged
  • 2 Cups boiling water
  • 0.5 Cups wine
  • 1 19 Ounces (oz) can fruit cocktail, drained
  • 16 Ounces (oz) sponge cake, divided
  • 1 3.5 Ounces (oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix, packaged
  • 1 8 Ounces (oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Steps

  1. In a large glass bowl, combine the strawberry flavored Jell-O® with 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  2. Mix together the wine, reserved fruit cocktail syrup, and enough cold water to make a total of 1.75 cups. Add this mixture to the dissolved gelatin and mix well.
  3. Add the cubed sponge cake and drained fruit cocktail to the gelatin mixture. Stir gently to combine, then refrigerate for 4 to 5 hours until set.
  4. Prepare the instant vanilla pudding according to the package instructions to yield 2 cups of custard. Pour the prepared custard over the set gelatin mixture and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  5. Before serving, top the trifle with the thawed whipped topping. Enjoy your delightful English trifle!
