- 1 Pound (lb) breakfast sausage
- 0.75 Cups margarine, melted
- 1.5 Cups celery, minced
- 0.75 Cups onion, minced
- 8 Cups bread cubes, divided
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) poultry seasoning
- 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) black pepper, ground
Steps
- Cook the sausage in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Pour the pan drippings into a liquid measure. Add enough melted margarine to reach 1 cup, then pour back into the skillet and place over medium heat.
- Add the celery and onion to the skillet; cook and stir until the onion is tender but not browned, about 10 minutes.
- Add 1/3 of the bread cubes to the vegetable mixture and stir to moisten.
- Transfer the bread and onion mixture to a large bowl. Add the sausage, remaining bread cubes, poultry seasoning, and pepper; stir until well combined.
- To bake, place the stuffing in the cavity of your turkey and cook according to the recipe you're following. Alternatively, bake in a greased casserole dish in an oven preheated to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
