Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter
  • 0.5 Cups celery, minced
  • 12 Ounces (oz) chicken breast, shredded
  • 0.67 Cups hot pepper sauce
  • 1 Cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch pepper, to taste
  • 16 Ounces (oz) wonton wrappers, packaged
  • 1 Quart oil

Steps

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced celery and cook until slightly soft, about 5 minutes. Transfer the celery to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the shredded chicken, hot pepper sauce, and Cheddar cheese to the bowl with the celery. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Lay the wonton wrappers on a clean work surface. Place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken mixture in the center of each wrapper. Lightly moisten the edges of the wrappers with water using your finger or a pastry brush.
  4. Fold one corner of the wrapper over the filling to the opposite corner, forming a triangle. Press the edges together firmly to seal.
  5. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or deep pan to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C). Carefully add several wontons at a time, frying until they are golden brown, turning as needed.
