- 16 Ounces (oz) package dried navy beans
- 7 Cups water
- 1 Whole ham bone
- 2 Cups diced ham
- 0.25 Cups onion, minced
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) salt
- 1 Pinch black pepper, ground
- 1 Whole bay leaf
- 0.5 Cups carrots, sliced
- 0.5 Cups celery, sliced
Steps
- Rinse the navy beans and transfer them to a large stockpot. Add 7 cups of water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat, cover, and let stand for 1 hour.
- Add the ham bone, diced ham, minced onion, salt, ground black pepper, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, until the beans are soft.
