Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) vegetable oil
  • 2 Pounds (lb) venison stew meat
  • 3 Medium onions, minced
  • 2 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 Cups water
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) salt
  • 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) dried oregano
  • 1 Large bay leaf
  • 7 Small potatoes, peeled
  • 1 Pound (lb) carrots, sliced
  • 0.25 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 Cups water

Steps

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Add the venison stew meat and cook, stirring occasionally, until well browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced onions and minced garlic to the pot. Cook and stir until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in 3 cups of water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, dried oregano, and the bay leaf. Cover the pot and let it simmer until the venison is tender, approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
  4. Add the peeled potatoes and the sliced carrots to the pot. Continue cooking until the vegetables are tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with 0.25 cups of water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the stew and cook, stirring, until the stew thickens, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. Remove the bay leaf before serving. Enjoy your savory herb venison stew with your choice of rice or egg noodles.
