Ingredients
- 1 16 Ounces (oz) package dried navy beans, packaged
- 9 Cups water
- 1 Pound (lb) bacon, sliced
- 2 Medium onions, minced
- 2 Stalks celery, minced
- 4 Teaspoons (tsp) chicken bouillon
- 1 Whole bay leaf
- 0.33 Teaspoons (tsp) salt, seasoned
- 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) black pepper, ground
- 0.125 Teaspoons (tsp) cloves, ground
- 1 16 Ounces (oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
- 4 Cups water
Steps
- Boil the navy beans in 9 cups of water, then let them sit for one hour. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the bacon to your desired texture, then drain, reserving 0.25 cups of the grease. Coarsely chop the bacon.
- Add the minced onions and celery to the reserved bacon grease and sauté until soft. Do not drain.
- Add the chicken bouillon, 4 cups of water, drained beans, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and ground cloves. Simmer for 2 hours.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes with their juice. Serve hot.
