Ingredients

  • 2.125 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 7 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 Cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 Whole egg
  • 3 Teaspoons vanilla sugar
  • 1.25 Cups almonds, ground
  • 6 Tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 1.5 Teaspoons vanilla sugar

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles small peas, then mix with your hands.
  2. Add 0.5 cup of confectioners' sugar, the egg, 3 teaspoons of vanilla sugar, and ground almonds to the flour mixture. Mix well and refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the dough into several parts. Roll each section into logs about 0.5 inch thick. Cut the logs into 1-inch pieces and shape them into crescents. Place the kipferl on the baking sheet and chill for 15 minutes.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Let them cool slightly.
  6. Mix 6 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar with 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla sugar.
  7. While the kipferl are still warm, carefully remove them from the baking sheet and dip them in the sugar mixture to coat.

Enjoy these delightful cookies with a warm beverage or as a sweet treat during festive occasions!
