Ingredients

  • 2 Cups white sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.25 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 12 Fluid Ounces can evaporated milk
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 Egg yolks
  • 0.25 Cups butter, melted
  • 1 9-Inch unbaked pie shell
  • 4 Egg whites, whisked
  • 0.25 Cups white sugar

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a saucepan, whisk together 2 cups of sugar, cocoa, and flour. Blend in evaporated milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Beat the egg yolks and stir them into the chocolate filling mixture.
  4. Add butter to the mixture and heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is just melted.
  5. Pour the chocolate filling into the unbaked pie shell.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until the pie is just set, about 35 to 40 minutes.
  7. For the meringue topping, beat the egg whites in a glass, metal, or ceramic bowl until foamy. Gradually add 0.25 cups of sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  8. Spread the meringue over the pie filling, covering it completely.
  9. Return the pie to the oven and bake until the meringue is lightly browned and golden, about 8 to 10 minutes.
