Ingredients

  • 2 Slices bacon, drained
  • 8 Ounces (oz) penne pasta, drained
  • 1 Medium onion, minced
  • 1 Clove garlic, minced
  • 3 Cups shredded Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter, melted
  • 3 Tablespoons (tbsp) all-purpose flour
  • 2 Cups milk

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large, deep skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Remove the bacon, drain on paper towels, crumble, and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the minced onion and minced garlic to the bacon grease. Cook and stir until the onion is softened and fragrant. Remove from heat and add the crumbled bacon back into the skillet. Set aside.
  5. To make the cheese sauce, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add the flour and stir constantly for 2 minutes. Gradually add the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens. Stir in 2 cups of the shredded Cheddar cheese until melted.
  6. Combine the cooked pasta, bacon and onion mixture, and cheese sauce in a large bowl. Mix well and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven until the cheese on top is melted and golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
