- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) white sugar
- 0.5 Cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste
- 1.25 Cups vegetable oil for deep-frying
- 1 Small onion, sliced
- 2 14.5 Ounces (oz) cans French cut green beans, drained
- 1 10.75 Ounces (oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, packaged
- 0.25 Cups milk
- 0.5 Cups sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 Pinch paprika, for garnish (Optional)
- 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste
Steps
- Whisk the egg and sugar together in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of black pepper. Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy skillet or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Dip each onion ring into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture. Fry the onion rings in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3 minutes, turning once if needed. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and let cool. Chop into 1/2-inch pieces.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, mix the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Stir in half of the fried onions. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish.
