- 2 ⅓ Cups whole wheat flour
- 0.5 Cups wheat germ
- 0.25 Cups brown sugar, packed
- 4 Teaspoons (tsp) baking powder
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) salt
- 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) nutmeg, ground
- 0.5 Cups shortening
- 1 Cup dried cranberries, sweetened
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) orange zest, grated
- 1 Whole egg
- 0.75 Cups milk
- 0.25 Cups orange juice
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, wheat germ, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Mix in shortening until the mixture is crumbly.
- Stir in the cranberries and orange zest.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the egg, milk, and orange juice.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead briefly until it holds together.
