Cooking Time: 75 minutes

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1.5 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 Cup butter, softened
  • Turtle Layer:
  • 0.67 Cup butter, melted
  • 0.5 Cup brown sugar
  • 1 Cup pecan halves, divided
  • Chocolate Topping:
  • 1 Cup milk chocolate chips

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Make the crust: In a large mixer bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and softened butter. Beat at medium speed until the mixture resembles fine crumbs, about 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer the mixture to an ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan and pat evenly over the bottom to form a crust.
  3. Make the turtle layer: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the melted butter and brown sugar. Cook and stir until bubbles form over the entire surface. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, for an additional 30 to 60 seconds. Remove from heat.
  4. Sprinkle the pecans evenly over the crust, then pour the hot brown sugar mixture over the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until the entire surface is bubbly, about 18 to 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and set on a wire rack. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the surface and let stand until the chocolate melts, about 2 to 3 minutes. Use a knife or small spatula to swirl the melted chocolate slightly.
  7. Let the bars sit until completely cooled, about 30 minutes. Use a sharp knife to cut into 48 bars. Enjoy!
