Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) cold water
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) cornstarch
- 0.5 Pound (lb) ground pork
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) garlic, minced
- 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) fresh ginger root, minced
- 16 Ounces (oz) package firm tofu, divided
- 5 Tablespoons (tbsp) soy sauce, low sodium preferred
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) hot bean sauce
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) white sugar
- 3 Green onions, sliced
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) sesame oil
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) rice vinegar
Steps
- In a small bowl, mix the cold water and cornstarch until smooth; set aside.
- In a small skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground pork for about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Gently add the tofu to the skillet, cooking for 2 minutes. Season with soy sauce, hot bean sauce, and sugar, stirring to combine.
- Stir in the cooked pork and sliced green onions. Add the cornstarch mixture, cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
- Finish by stirring in the sesame oil and, if desired, a splash of rice vinegar to balance the flavors.
- Serve hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired. Enjoy with steamed rice for a complete meal.
