Ingredients
- 1 Large baking potato, peeled
- 1.5 Pounds (lb) ground pork
- 1 Large onion, minced
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) salt
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ground black pepper
- 0.5 Teaspoons (tsp) ground cinnamon
- 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) ground cloves
- 1 Pinch ground allspice
- 0.5 Cups water
- 1 14.1 Ounces (oz) package double-crust pie pastry, packaged
- 1 Large egg, whisked
- 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) paprika, seasoned
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Prick the potato several times with a fork and place it onto a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven until easily pierced with a fork, about 50 minutes to 1 hour. Let cool for 10 minutes, then discard the skin and mash the flesh. Turn the oven off.
- In a large skillet, combine the mashed potato, ground pork, onion, water, salt, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until very thick, at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a deep-dish pie plate with one pastry crust. Spoon in the pork and potato filling.
- Cover with the remaining pastry crust. Brush with whisked egg and sprinkle with seasoned paprika. Cut a steam vent in the pastry.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes. If the edges brown too fast, cover them with a strip of foil. Serve warm.
