Ingredients

  • 4 Whole portobello mushroom caps
  • 0.25 Cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) garlic, minced
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) dried basil
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) dried oregano
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch pepper, to taste
  • 4 1 Ounce (oz) slices provolone cheese, melted

Steps

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Place the portobello mushroom caps, smooth side up, in a shallow dish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, dried basil, and dried oregano. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Pour the vinaigrette over the mushrooms. Let them stand at room temperature for about 15 minutes, turning twice. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Brush the grill grates with oil. Place the mushrooms on the grill, reserving the marinade for basting.
  6. Grill the mushrooms until just tender, about 5 to 8 minutes per side, brushing with the marinade frequently.
  7. Top each mushroom with a slice of provolone cheese.
  8. Continue grilling until the cheese is melted, about 2 minutes.
  9. Serve the grilled mushrooms on buns with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
