Ingredients

  • 9 Lasagna noodles
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) olive oil
  • 1 Pound (lb) beef, ground
  • 1 Pound (lb) Italian sausage, ground
  • 4 15 Ounces (oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 16 Ounces (oz) mushrooms, sliced, drained
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) garlic salt
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) oregano, dried
  • 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) thyme, dried
  • 0.25 Teaspoon (tsp) basil, dried
  • 1 Pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 Pinch black pepper, ground, to taste
  • 1 15 Ounces (oz) ricotta cheese
  • 3 Large eggs, whisked
  • 0.33 Cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 Pound (lb) mozzarella cheese, shredded

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, drained mushrooms, garlic salt, oregano, thyme, and basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes to develop flavors.
  4. While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and a tablespoon of olive oil. Cook until the noodles are al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, whisked eggs, and grated Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  6. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1/3 of the meat sauce over the mozzarella. Repeat the layering process two more times, finishing with the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil to prevent the cheese from browning too quickly. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This resting period helps the layers set and makes serving easier.
