Serving Size: 8
Cooking Time: 90 minutes
Ingredients
- 0.67 Cups uncooked white rice
- 1.33 Cups water
- 1 Large head cabbage
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter
- 1 Medium onion, minced
- 1.5 Pounds (lb) ground chicken
- 2 Whole eggs
- 4 Whole garlic cloves, minced
- 1 Teaspoon (tsp) kosher salt
- 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) black pepper, ground
- 1 Pinch dried marjoram
- 2 8 Ounces (oz) cans tomato sauce
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a saucepan, bring the rice and water to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes. Let the rice cool slightly.
- Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and place the cabbage in the boiling water. Gently remove the outer leaves as they soften and set them aside.
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked onion, ground chicken, cooked rice, eggs, minced garlic, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and marjoram. Mix until well combined.
- Place a portion of the chicken mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf around the filling, tucking in the ends to enclose it. Secure each roll with a toothpick if necessary.
- Arrange the cabbage rolls in the prepared baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the rolls.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a roll reads at least 160°F (70°C).
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious, herb-infused cabbage rolls!
