Serving Size: 8

Cooking Time: 90 minutes

Ingredients

  • 0.67 Cup uncooked white rice
  • 1.33 Cups water
  • 1 Large head cabbage
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) butter
  • 1 Medium onion, minced
  • 1.5 Pounds (lb) ground chicken
  • 2 Whole eggs
  • 4 Whole garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) kosher salt
  • 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) black pepper, ground
  • 1 Pinch dried marjoram, seasoned
  • 2 8 Ounces (oz) cans tomato sauce

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, bring the rice and water to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes. Allow the rice to cool slightly.
  3. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and place the cabbage in the boiling water. As the outer leaves soften, carefully remove them and set aside.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked onion, ground chicken, cooked rice, eggs, minced garlic, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and seasoned marjoram. Mix until well combined.
  6. Place a portion of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf and tuck the ends in to enclose the filling. Secure each roll with a toothpick if necessary.
  7. Arrange the cabbage rolls in the prepared baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the rolls.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven until the meat is cooked through and no longer pink, about 45 to 60 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a roll should read at least 160°F (70°C).
  9. Serve the cabbage rolls hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy your flavorful and comforting meal!
