Ingredients

  • 3.75 Cups cubed white bread
  • 1.5 Cups cubed whole wheat bread
  • 1 Pound turkey sausage, ground
  • 1 Cup onion, minced
  • 0.75 Cup celery, minced
  • 2.5 Teaspoons sage, dried
  • 1.5 Teaspoons rosemary, dried
  • 0.5 Teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1 Whole Golden Delicious apple, cored and sliced
  • 0.75 Cup cranberries, dried
  • 0.33 Cup fresh parsley, minced
  • 1 Whole turkey liver, cooked and minced
  • 0.75 Cup turkey stock
  • 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread the cubed white and whole wheat bread in a single layer on a large baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until evenly toasted, about 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer the toasted bread cubes to a large bowl.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the turkey sausage and onions, stirring and breaking up lumps, until evenly browned, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  5. Add the celery, sage, rosemary, and thyme to the skillet. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes until the flavors blend.
  6. Pour the sausage mixture over the toasted bread cubes in the bowl.
  7. Mix in the sliced apple, dried cranberries, minced parsley, and minced liver.
  8. Drizzle with turkey stock and melted butter, then mix lightly.
  9. Allow the stuffing to cool completely before loosely stuffing a turkey or serving as a side dish.
